Halo’s Master Chief Collection Needs a Huge Day One Update

If you’re rejoining Master Chief and the UNFC this fall, you might want to start making room on your hard drive or buying an external one. 343 Industries is warning players that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will nearly fill a 45 GB Blu-ray disc in all and will have a sizable update pre-launch.

Xbox Wire reports via Dan Ayoub, studio head for Halo external development at 343 Industries, that a 20 GB update for the game. He writes:

“You’ll be able to start playing Campaign and more as the content is installing, with some features and multiplayer content being added via the update. Yes, the update is large, but we weren’t about to cut corners to save disc space.”

Though the game’s “going gold” and headed off for manufacturing, 343 Industries isn’t done tuning the game. “Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimize the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch,” Ayoub says. “This will continue right up until launch day.”

Halo: The Master Chief Collection deploys only onto Xbox One this Nov. 11th alongside Assassin’s Creed Unity and Assassin’s Creed: Rogue, with the former offering a special Xbox One bundle. Both pre-orders and pre-loading for Master Chief’s glossy relaunch start later today.

If you have automatic update downloads enabled on your Xbox One, you’ll get the 20 GB update when it’s ready, which will likely prevent a wait when the game is unlocked.
