Harley Quinn Won’t Be Visiting Gotham in Season One

Those hoping for the love of Mr. J’s life joining the cast of Gotham will have to wait a little longer, but a “prenatal origin story” for a certain boy wonder is reportedly in the works.

Gotham star Ben McKenzie, the show’s very own James Gordon, first teased that the Grayson family might make a cameo. Now, Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller confirmed to EW that the series has “an episode coming up where we learn how Robin’s parents got together.”

Though fans holding out for a Harley Quinn/Harleen Quinzel role might just have to wait for now according to Heller:

We haven’t got Harley Quinn in it. Riddler’s girlfriend is coming up. And Harley Quinn is definitely planned for later on, but so far no.

“You can’t just keep pumping these characters into the show in a comic book sort of way, because you get the Super Friends effect—which isn’t a bad effect, but then you have spaceships and need to go underwater and get wacky villains and the rest of it,” he said. You have to work as a character piece first. First it has to be real.

On the same note, Gotham City’s DA – Harvey Dent – made his first appearance on Gotham this past week. A younger version of Scarecrow is meanwhile poised to make an appearance while the show’s young Poison Ivy (Claire Foley) – Ivy Pepper – will be making a return to the show soon.

In the meantime, Gotham‘s recently earned itself a full season on Fox, extending its 16-episode first season to a full 22 episodes.
