Blizzard is giving this new expansion a mysterious and strange twist that begins with their description of the Whispers of the Old Gods story:
“For countless millennia, the Old Gods have slept. Now, the time of their awakening draws near; their evil influence has crawled even into the tavern! Can you feel your cards trembling in their decks as the corruption spreads? Some of your old friends have already grown icky masses of tentacles and a downright frightening number of eyeballs!
Of course, while some would recoil at these cards, a resourceful player like you might just be able to harness the power of the Old Gods. Yeees, surely nothing could go wrong… Can you hear them, beckoning to be played? Will you heed their whispers at your ear?”
The new cards will spice up your decks and bring excitement to the battlefield. There are four Old Gods cards you can obtain: C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, Y’Shaar and N’Zoth. These Old Gods are anything but comforting divine beings; they bring chaos and madness to those who awaken them. Blizzard stated that players will receive the two Beckoner of Evil cards and the great C’Thun card with the first Whispers of the Gods pack.
The aura of the gods’ corruption has reached previously released cards and have twisted them into new versions of their previous selves. This expansion brings a new card-type to the battle: Forbidden Cards. Forbidden Cards will drain you of all your mana to feed the card which will ignite the card’s ability. The more mana that is fed to the Forbidden Card, the greater the card’s effect is produced.
Two types of games are going to be available beginning with the Whispers of the Old Gods release:
Standard: Play against other players using the most recent released cards. Standard is playable in Ranked, Friendly Challenges and also in Casual Play.
Wild: Allows you to play with any of your cards in your collection. Your decks can contain even the original Hearthstone cards! Available in Causal and Ranked matches.
Hearthstone’s latest expansion Whispers of the Old Gods is launching on April 27th. Do you dare to awaken the Old Gods?
