Original Story: Walt Disney’s festival of all things Star Wars is rock’in and roll’in in Anaheim California right now and a steady stream of news is coming in by the hour – including some juicy tidbits about Star Wars Battlefront. According to incoming reports, the reboot of the franchise’s legendary sci-fi shooter series by EA and DICE was shown off and people got to play and see quite a lot.
First off, the game’s allegedly due this November 17th for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC as expected, but that’s not the biggest news. The Associated Press now claims that the game’s supporting up to 40 players (in what’s suspected to be a 20 v 20 online multiplayer) and features all the worlds you’ve seen from the films…and a few you haven’t yet.
From what both AP and others are saying, the game includes the sand dunes of Tatooine, the snowy blizzards Hoth, and the “gooey” planet of Sullust from the Star Wars novels well as some sort of “fiery” planet that’s not listed as Star Wars Episode III’s Mustafar. In light of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Battlefront’s also going to be up for some DLC featuring the recent movie trailer’s junkyard planet of Jakku – for free.
Further, you can play all of the film series’ iconic characters besides troop classes, including “the Dark Lord” himself, Battlefront designer Niklas Fegraeus claimed in an interview with AP:
“You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well.”
Hero characters will allegedly be unlocked through various in-game achievements in this regard and players will also be able to jet around in all their favorite vehicles – X-wings, Tie fighters, snow speeders, and speeder bikes. There was reportedly a full seven minutes of in-game gameplay featured at Disney’s Star Wars Celebration today and showed off a variety of gameplay starring the latter Endor-based rides.
According to other reports, the game also features interchangeable third and first-person modes in the spirt of the original games released in 2004 and 2005, respectively, and in the manner of Rockstar’s current-gen remastering of Grand Theft Auto V.
Disney’s four-day convention extend from now through this Sunday, so expect more news as it happens. We’ll let you know when the game’s first footage is up and have it here for your viewing pleasure right here at BagoGames.
