Hisui and Kohaku Revealed for Melty Blood: Type Lumina

A duo combined into one character slot

Melty Blood

Melty Blood: Type Lumina has been rather quiet on the content reveals for its upcoming release next month, compared to games like Guilty Gear Strive and The King of Fighters XV. Even Street Fighter V has had a content update in some form, with its Summer Update earlier this week. All of that aside, they’ve revealed a new character trailer for the upcoming project.

Hisui and Kohaku are a pair of maids working for the Tohno family in-game, and are two characters controlled by the player. Coming with them is, again, a brand-new trailer, which showcases their playstyle, albeit briefly. You can watch that trailer below.

Hisui and Kohaku’s Gameplay and Playstyle

Hisui and Kohaku’s gameplay heavily revolves around using each other’s normal attacks and special moves to mix the opponent’s defense up and snowball them. They fulfill the archetype of a “Puppet” character, which, for those not aware of fighting game terms, is an archetype that dictates controlling one character and using their special moves or game mechanics to control the other. Other fighting games also use puppet characters as well, such as Oleander from Them’s Fightin’ Herds, Chaos from Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late [cl=r], and Relius Clover from BlazBlue Centralfiction.

Puppet characters are a rather powerful archetype due to how effective they can be when in a player’s hands. However, this comes at the cost of them usually being not the easiest characters to pick up and play. Despite that, they can really be powerful characters in the long run. Melty Blood: Type Lumina will be releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Steam, and the Nintendo Switch on September 30th, 2021. You can visit the game’s website here.
