HMV has announced that all sixteen of its Irish stores will be closed.
This news comes after HMV announced more than 60 store closures last week and adds a further 300 jobs to the pile of redundancies which have been caused due to the company exiting administration.
Stores in Ireland were attempted to be saved however as Deloitte, the administrator of HMV, did try to find a buyer for the stores but had not been successful. Each of the sixteen stores were loss-making which didn’t add any further support to the situation.
HMV had in recent years seen an increase in video game sales, whilst sales of CDs had continued to drop. With many gamers buying online or trading in games at exchange stores, the decline in HMV’s market was always on the horizon. With websites like Jackpot Capital Casino hosting some great online casino games, with play for free options site wide, there is still a lot of options for gamers during this difficult period for many high street gaming merchandisers.
