Homefront: The Revolution’s very much alive and well, so this Gamescom 2015 would lead us to believe.
Originally slated for release last year, developer Crytek UK suffered a string of financial difficulties and the ensuing layoffs left Homefront was rumored to be shelved – or not. The game’s now pegged for a 2016 release and it’s got an upcoming online multiplayer beta for Xbox One players this winter, though when that is we have yet to know.
Set in 2029 Pennsylvania, the open-world, first-person shooter pits players against the occupying force of the Greater Korean Republic as counter-revolutionary Ethan Brady. Armed to the teeth with god knows how many explosives, hacking, and sporty motorbikes, Brady and his crew work to overthrow the dictatorship buy any means necessary.
The game follows 2011’s original Homefront under THQ before the company in question’s demise that following year. The series debut saw players assume the role of U.S. Marine Robert Jacobs attempting to fight North Korean forces occupying San Francisco in the year 2027.
Homefront: The Revolution‘s due in 2016 for Playstation 4, Xbox One, Linux, OS X, and Microsoft Windows for PC.
