The third film in the series, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 failed to exceed it’s previous record, but still managed to be one of the biggest openings for 2014. It brought in $123,000,000 over the weekend which, while impressive, was a step down from Catching Fire with a $158,000,000 opening. The rest of this week’s movies all took logical dips from such a large take by the mega-franchise. Big Hero 6 has proved its strength at the box office by remaining in the #2 slot and may remain there over Thanksgiving weekend. The only big move up the list is The Theory of Everything which opened up into 99 more theaters.
