This month’s issue of the Japanese magazine Famitsu has revealed more details about Tecmo Koei’s collaboration with Nintendo, Hyrule Warriors. This Wii U exclusive combines The Legend of Zelda series with Tecmo Koei’s Dynasty Warriors franchise. The game will cost 7980 yen at retail but only 6980 yen if downloaded through the Nintendo eShop. A premium edition that contains 6 new in-game costumes and a triforce shaped clock will also be available for 11664 yen. Tecmo  Koei have stated that they expect the game to sell over a million copies worldwide, which could prove difficult given the Wii U’s low install base.

Hyrule Warriors is being developed by Team Ninja in collaboration with the studio behind Dynasty Warriors, Omega Force. Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma is supervising the project. The game’s story involves Link as a young soldier in training who must defeat the evil witch Shia. There is no word on how Hyrule Warriors fits into the Zelda timeline or even if it will be considered canon. In addition to Link, the game will feature a large number of other playable characters including Impa, a captain in the Royal Army. As players  progress through the story they will be able to improve each character and upgrade their weaponry. The game will also feature a co op mode with one player using the TV screen and one player using the Gamepad.

Hyrule Warriors is set to launch on August 14 in Japan.  It will be playable at the E3 conference next month so expect Nintendo to announce a western release date very soon.
