Insert Coin Clothing Interview

The gaming industry is one of the largest in the world, with an estimated $70 Billion revenue for 2013, it truly is a vast network of large companies. However, a new aspect of gaming is on the rise, producing content we’ve been waiting for for some time. We spoke with Dan Long, Insert Coin Clothing‘s co-founder, and we asked some questions that were on our mind. But firstly, here is an introduction if you don’t already know Insert Coin.

Insert Coin are the market leaders in gaming related attire, with a range of products from hoodies to leggings so you can get your geek on whenever necessary. They produce designs from some of our favorite games, often with a very unique take on them. From the good old classics to some of the latest releases, you name it they’ve got it.  Insert Coin’s popularity has taken a staggering leap forward, working with some of the major companies in the industry with the likes of Microsoft, Sony, Ubisoft, SEGA, Codemasters, Just Add Water, Namco Bandai, Capcom, Eurogamer, IGN, GameSpot, SpecialEffect, Gamers’ Voice, GameCity and Future Publishing. You can see them at every gaming expo or event selling some of the best attire available.

They have taken the games we know and love and introduced them into stylish designs that you can take pride in as you stroll down the road to buy milk in a Ryu Street Fighter II dressing gown…Yes, I have done that. Dan Long, Insert Coin’s co-founder and a man who is very passionate about gaming, has put hard work into creating high quality clothing that the gaming market hasn’t seen in some time. We we’re curious to hear about the company and the projects they have taken up to, see some of the great designs they have on offer, and what we can expect in future.

We asked Dan a number of questions regarding gaming fashion and about Insert Coin below:

BagoGames: When did you come up with the idea?

Dan Long: “Insert Coin started because we (Jon Rhodes, creative director, and I) were getting frustrated and disappointed with the terrible quality of video game tees out there. Most were poorly designed and the few good ones were printed on cheap, nasty shirts. We knew we could do better and so we decided to actually do something about it and take gaming apparel to the next level.”

BG: What is it like being part of one of the worlds biggest communities?
DL: “We’re always striving to be the best at what we do and we’re honored that the gaming community seems to love it too. We just want all gamers to realize that they don’t have to settle for second rate gaming gear – they can represent their love of video games in style and get their geek on with us!”

BG: How difficult is it to design gaming based clothing?

DL: “Creating great gaming clothing isn’t necessarily hard, but it does take a great understanding of gaming, fashion and design. You need to take plenty of time to appreciate the subtle elements of a game and you need to understand what makes each game special to gamers.”

BG: Are you looking forward to designs for the New IP’s?

DL: “We’re in a really fortunate position where we are able to work with our favourite classic games, as well as the latest titles. We get to see and play games far in advance of most other people, so it’s particularly exciting when that’s a new franchise.”

BG: What games are you most looking forward to in Next-Gen gaming?

DL: “There are loads of great games incoming for the next generation and it’s tough to pick the best. We’re particularly excited about Destiny, Metal Gear Solid V, Watch_Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, Killzone Shadowfall and Titanfall.”

BG: What are the future plans for Insert Coin?

DL: “We’re always introducing lots of new lines – and there are loads more incoming over the next few weeks. If you want to know what they are, it’s best to follow us on Facebook or Twitter… all will be revealed soon!”

Later on in the day @Insertcointees Tweeted out “We’ve also got a huge announcement set to land in the coming days. Some of the biggest news we’ve ever had in fact… #insertcointease
