Insomniac Takes a Stab at the Assassins in Sunset Overdrive

Girls just want to have fun, and the folks at Insomniac just want to show you they care in Sunset Overdrive.

It was just last week that Assassin’s Creed series developer Ubisoft reluctantly spilled the beans on the decidedly sparse selection of playable female characters in Assassin’s Creed: Unity’s 4-player co-op (and by that we mean zilch). This factoid didn’t stand well with some following creative director Alex Amancio’s claim that female character option was cut from the game because of alleged programming issues.

Now it’d seem Insomniac begs to disagree. The Ratchet & Clank veteran studio is opening the doors of its Xbox One exclusive open-world shooter of Sunset Overdrive to whatever type of character they like–and it would seem that includes women dressed up in Ubisoft’s very own Assassin garb courtesy of Ezio de Auditore’s 15th century wardrobe.

In the video above, Insomniac’s asked: “Can you play as a female character?” The presenter replies in kind, saying:

“Of course. Self-expression is super important to us. You can be female. You can be male. You can be different skin tones. You can be different body types. And all of the clothing is gender neutral. So if you want to be a dude in a skirt, you can be a dude in a skirt. Just be who you want to be.”

Elsewhere in the video, Insomniac details how traps can be used in Sunset Overdrive to defeat enemies.

In addition, the universe simply must have a sense of humor, because Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Sunset Overdrive just happen to release in North America this October 28th.

Tell us: Which (if not both) are you picking up?
