Invincible Arwing Announced for Star Fox Zero

Miyamoto confirms that an option will be given to players to use an invincible Arwing to get through particularly difficult levels in Star Fox Zero.

In his interview with Time, Miyamoto discusses what he believes makes for a fun Star Fox game–and it’s hard to disagree.

So I think that action games like this have to have a certain level of difficulty to achieve that satisfaction. And particularly with Star Fox Zero, if you try to complete this game, I think you’re going to find it to be quite challenging,” says Miyamoto.

He states that playing the upcoming game alone should provide a certain level of difficulty to the player:

…Part of the fun of taking on a challenge is that the challenge has to be a hurdle that you overcome. Simply lowering the hurdle doesn’t necessarily mean that the challenge will be fun. What’s fun is you mastering the skill and having the sense of accomplishment–of achieving something that’s difficult.

He then goes on to say that, though difficulty is an important consideration for the upcoming Star Fox game, consideration must be given to younger or novice players.

And then beyond those modes [co-op play and Star Fox Guard], we have additional ones for people who like the game but find it too hard to get past certain levels. So for instance there’ll be a way for them to get an invincible Arwing, so that they can fly through and see the levels.

This isn’t the first time Nintendo has created game features to help less seasoned gamers. In the latest Mario platformer titles for the Wii U and 3DS, players can choose to make use of the Invincibility Leaf, which makes Mario impervious to enemies and deadly obstacles for the duration of a level.

For those looking for some real punishment, Miyamoto confirmed that another ship will be available that “does more damage, but which also takes more damage.” Let us know how you plan on playing Star Fox Zero when it launches on April 21st.
