Iwata: “I understand that the real issue is the lack of software”. No price drop for Wii U

Nintendo’s president, Satoru Iwata has recently spoken to CVG in a response to many gamers and critics claiming that Nintendo should lower the price of its new console, the Wii U, to entice more consumers to pick it up and actually improve the dismal sales figures for the device.

However, Satoru Iwata claims that this would not help resolve the issue and he gives the example of the 8GB Basic Model being comfortably outsold by the 32GB Premium Version as evidence to back himself up.

In the interview with CVG contributor Steve Boxer, Satoru Iwata says:
“If the price is actually an issue [with Wii U], then there is some contradiction between the current sales balance between the Basic and Premium versions of the Wii U.

The basic version should have sold a lot, but the fact of the matter is that people are buying more of the premium version. So the issue is not there.

I understand that the real issue is the lack of software, and the only solution is to provide the mass-market with a number of quality software titles.”

Do you agree with Satoru Iwata’s thoughts?
