Killer Instinct Has a Killer Policy

The roof blew as Microsoft showed that Killer Instinct was finally getting the reboot that fans wanted for so long. Originally a rare developed game, Killer Instinct for Xbox One is developed by Double Helix Games. And if the news that Killer Instinct is finally getting a reboot doesn’t have you drooling, then the news that the game will not only be available at launch, but be completely free should surely get you drooling!

I remember when this guy was in 16 bit! Oh no, I’m showing my age, aren’t I? Abort mission!

But don’t get yourself a bib yet as the game has one catch that may have your excitement either fade away. While Killer Instinct will be free at launch, it will only include one fighter, Jago. What this means is that, if you want to unlock other fighters then you will have to pay a fee for each one. The price has not been confirmed as of yet however, so for all we know, Microsoft might be looking to make each character be dirt cheap, say .99?

This is not a strange thing to say however, as mobile games see this implemented many times, creating it’s own brand called “Freemium”. But does the fact that you have to pay for each individual character have you a little hesitated? Or are you just going to wait and see what Microsoft has planned? Considering that most games are $59.99 at launch, and the initial game is free, then even if each character is $2, you are still getting a pretty good deal.

Characters in Killer Instinct will have two life bars, just like the original. There will also be combos and combo breakers, as seen in the game-play shown at the press conference.

Xbox One is scheduled for a November release.
