Labyrinths of Lunacy Brings Madness to Arkham Horror

Arkham Horror, Fantasy Flight Games

This year, Gen Con, one of the world’s largest tabletop gaming conventions, turned 50. There were plenty of tabletop events put on for players by various publishers, however one of the biggest ones was Labyrinths of Lunacy, for the Arkham Horror Living Card Game, put out by Fantasy Flight Games. The special massive multiplayer event was a hit, and now Fantasy Flight are publishing the scenario so players can take on the treacherous labyrinth in the comfort of their own home.

The Arkham Horror Living Card Game is set up differently than collectible card games. With an LCG, players just buy packs containing set cards, which are not randomized, to build their collection with. There is no chase, no ultra mythic rares, just card games for people that like card games and not spending thousands on chasing certain cards. Arkham Horror LCG plays out more like a roleplaying game, where each player controls an investigator, and plays through scenarios that tell a story. Players move from location to location, uncovering clues that advance the story, and fighting Lovecraftian monsters and cultists along the way. There are typically cycles of scenarios that tell one overarching story, however Labyrinths of Lunacy is different.

Which of these investigators will survive the labyrinth?

Labyrinths of Lunacy is set up to be played with three groups of players, up to twelve in total. The players have been abducted by a mysterious villain and trapped within a large labyrinth, that is full of treacherous traps and monsters. The players have to work together to make their way out of the labyrinth and face off against the madman that is torturing them. In this standalone scenario, while players are in separate groups, their actions can affect the other groups in assorted ways, so everyone needs to pay attention to potential outcomes of what they choose to do or not do. Labyrinths of Lunacy also includes a mode to play for a single group of up to four players, so those without a large group can play through the scenarios separately and not rely on a large group for playing.

The Labyrinths of Lunacy scenario is set to release in the fourth quarter of the year, so hopefully it comes just in time for the holidays, and for some epic get-togethers.
