In a new Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag video released by Ubisoft, we’re given a brief history lesson on how the Golden Age of Pirates began. It didn’t begin with a mass of fighting and seemingly random act of violence, but instead began when Spain, Great Britain and France agreed to a number a treaties that resulted in a much welcome time of peace. Not too long afterwards, however, and due to the lack of opportunities afforded by a distant ruler, many sailors turned their futures into a life of piracy; a life that came with new ideals and a new kind of freedom.
Many great pirates lived during these times, such as Calico Jack, Benjamin Hornigold, Charles Vane and even Blackbeard who, along with names that all living people would come to fear, brought their own brand of charisma, as well as their own code.
Protagonist Edward Kenway will also rise to the status of the aforementioned pirates in Assassin’s Creed IV, which Ubisoft claims will contain the real, unvarnished stories of the Golden Age of Pirates. On the game’s Tumblr page lies even more information regarding the history of that time.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has a release date of October 29th.
