Level 5 Wants Games to Support Smartphones

During an interview, President and CEO of Level 5, Akihiro Hino, stated that he wants the company to make all future Level 5 games support smartphones. In the interview, the CEO went on about the Yo-kai Watch series, an update on their new cross-media project Snack World, and a new focus on smartphones for gaming.

After releasing their smartphone app Yo-kai Watch PuniPuni (Wibble Wobble in the West), the company has been astounded by the game’s success, Level 5 will focus more on smartphone compatibility. Hino even goes on to mention that he hopes to see all future titles from the company be compatible with smartphones (rough translation follows):

Basically, we want to continue to correspond to all the game of the future is smartphones. Made with consumer titles, and let as play also in the smartphone…

Hino wants all games in the future to have a way to be played via smartphone. He also expects that they will need some kind of rule on how these console games will be carried onto smartphones.

Hino goes on to talk about how kids today are starting to play games on smartphones and he has felt a change in generations, looking back not so long ago when all the boys in first grade would only talk about the Nintendo 3DS. He feels that smartphone presence in the industry will only continue to grow for adults and kids.

After the huge success of Yo-kai Watch 3 this year, Hino believes the series will be on hold for awhile and that 2017 and beyond will bring many new things from Level 5.
