A father by the name of Mike Hoye decided that he didn’t want his daughter, Maya, to grow up facing the thought that only men can be heroes, as often told in video games.

To ensure this wasn’t the case, Mike Hoye hacked the original files of the Gamecube game: “The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker” to make Link female before letting his daughter play through the game.

When explaining the situation on his blog, Mike further explained that his daughter is, obviously, a girl. Why should she have to play as a boy and not a female hero throughout the entire game? He simply didn’t want his daughter growing up thinking that girls can never be heroes and are only ever good for being rescued.

What do you make of Mikes efforts to change an entire game just for this element to be changed?
