Mass Effect: Andromeda, the highly anticipated RPG from Bioware, finally unveiled a full gameplay trailer at The Game Awards. Mass Effect: Andromeda takes place centuries after the events of the original trilogy, and focuses on a new crew as they search for a new home for humanity. The player is referred to as the Pathfinder, and it is up to them to explore hazardous planets, meet new aliens, fend off hostile enemies and more. The trailer, available to view in 4k, showcases the stunning new planets and locations, as well as an intense combat encounter.
For fans of the series it will hopefully be enough to satisfy the need to play the game, for now, or it actually could make it worse. The gameplay seems similar to the previous games, but with smoother animations and camera controls, but combat seems even more satisfying than before. The gunplay looks to be as action-packed as the previous games and the biotics shown were as flashy as ever. A key part to the trailer is the use of a transport, called the Nomad, which brings the series back to the exploratory roots of the first game. The ability to travel across a larger planet, and explore more will be a welcome addition to the series – hopefully meaning less scanning of planets for minerals and resources.
At The Game Awards there was sadly no new info given to when Mass Effect: Andromeda would be released, only the Spring 2017 release window. The trailer provides plenty of information however, and hopefully as fans pour over it, some secrets will be unearthed, and there will be a better idea of what to expect from the Pathfinder’s journey. Until spring however, we must wait to see how the future of humanity will fare for the Pathfinder and the crew of their ship, the Tempest.
