For those that didn’t hear about the announcement made during Comic-Con 2011, the creators of Mass Effect (Casey Hudson and Mark Protosevich) are working with Legendary Films to create a Mass Effect movie. Strangely enough, after they announced this information, not much else has been released about it. However, an article on Deadline pointed out that Mark Protosevich has written the movie’s script that Legendary will follow. The script, apparently, has been written to follow Commander Shepherd’s story line as portrayed by the first Mass Effect game.
According to an article written in September on G4, Legendary Films had originally stated that the movie would tell a different story than the games had. G4 also pointed out that Legendary had explicitly stated Seth Green would not be casting as Joker—who he did voice-over for within the games. These statements have changed in the updated version of the movies FAQ on the Legendary website to say:
- Will it just be an adaptation of the first game, second game, or a completely new story?
It will focus on Commander Shepherd’s journey, centering around the story of the original Mass Effect game.
- Will Seth Green portray Joker, the character he voiced in the game?
No casting decisions have been made yet.
