The Mass Effect Trilogy was announced a while back, but there were many questions raised in its wake. Namely, the various pieces of DLC that come with each version (PC, Xbox 360 & PS3) and the fact that the PS3 version of the trilogy didn’t have a set release date. Today though, thanks to an update made by Bioware Edmonton’s Ryan Warden, we now have a release date for the PS3 version of the trilogy/Mass Effect 1; which is now revealed to be December 4, 2012.
Additionally, the whole DLC situation gets cleared up:
- Xbox 360 – Mass Effect 1 will come with all of the DLC that it originally shipped with (not the add-ons), Cerberus Network comes with ME2 and ME3 contains all of the DLC it originally shipped with as well.
- PlayStation 3 – Original Mass Effect will come with the Bring Down the Sky add-on, Mass Effect 2 will have Cerberus Network, Kasumi – Stolen Memory, Overlord and Lair of the Shadow Broker. Mass Effect 3 stays the same.
- PC – Same as the above Xbox 360 version, but will include Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle Station for free. Warden notes that the ME1 DLC is free even if you were to buy the standalone game.
Still not sure if I like the different versions of the trilogy coming with different DLC, but they are including the games as they originally released on their respective platforms (hence the PS3 version of ME2 having all of that add-on content). Also, instead of just neglecting to say anything about the PS3 version with the initial announcement, why not let people know that some work needed to be done in order to port ME1 to the PS3? Not saying anything at all regarding its situation could be seen as not caring as much about your PS3 fan base, but maybe that’s just me being pessimistic again.
At any rate, we now have definitive release dates for the Mass Effect Trilogy as well as details on which DLC is coming with which version. Better late than never right?
