Metal Gear Online PC Beta Taken Down Less Than a Day After Going Up

Metal Gear Online

The Metal Gear Online beta for PC went up last night at 10 PM PST with lots of people reporting problems such as crashing, framerate drops, and overall poor optimization. However, the game ran fine for other users. Now it is impossible to run as the beta has been taken offline, according to a post by the Online Manager for the Metal Gear franchise, Robert Peeler, to the Steam community forums. The post states that the game was taken offline due to a possible exploit, and will return once the issue has been addressed.

The exploit in question seems to be a glitch that would allow users to purchase Mother Base Coins (MB Coins) without the need to actually exchange real-life currency. MB Coins typically operated as Konami’s in-game currency for MGO, but it looks like the glitch allowed users to stack them up without paying a single cent. According to users on the Steam forums, the servers are still online meaning that if you haven’t closed the game yet, you still have access to the beta and can farm MB Coins. If you closed the beta however, the 3.7 GB download that the beta entailed seems to have disappeared from most users’ computers and access is completely closed off.
