It’s been ages since the Konami we thought we knew existed as such. The publisher’s mysterious firing/not-firing of Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima earlier this year was arguably the first shot fired in the unfolding drama surrounding Metal Gear Solid V developer, Kojima Productions. The second saw Konami pull the plug on what was to be the upcoming Silent Hills, helmed by both Kojima and director Guillermo Del Toro. Now one of MGS V‘s own is speaking up from Konami’s own shores – and the news isn’t good for what may be Kojima Productions.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain voice actor Akio Otsuka, the man behind the Japanese language version of Big Boss, now claims that Kojima Productions “was forced to disband,” despite his belief that “the work that the team has been putting their utmost effort into is nearly complete” according to a Tweet of his this week as it was translated by Gematsu.

Continuing, Otsuka reassured fans that Metal Gear Solid V is definitely the game fans have been waiting for.

“I’m not exaggerating when I say that I expect it will become their greatest masterpiece. I couldn’t help it,” Otsuka said. “I just wanted to say ‘Kept you waiting, huh?’ (Laughs.) But even if this is the end, Metal Gear Solid is immortal!”

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain crawls out of the shadows this Sept. 1st for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows for PC alongside Avalanche Studio’s take on an open-world Mad Max – no fire spewing guitarists included.
