Grinding Gear Games has announced that its upcoming online action RPG Path of Exile has recently passed the two million registered players mark.
Set in the dark fantasy world of Wraeclast, Path of Exile is a free-to-play PC title which Grinding Gear Games has claimed is not an example of “pay-to-win”, the game instead featuring apparently “ethical” micro-transactions.
Path of Exile has already accumulated over two million registered players despite not being scheduled for a full release until September, the game currently in its Open Beta phase, which began earlier this year on 23rd January.
“We’re really pleased with Path of Exile‘s reception,” said Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games, in a press release. “It blew our expectations out of the water and continues to grow every day. The continued feedback and support from our fans has been great. We expect to add a lot of new content and features during the Open Beta period as we approach full release later this year.”
