The Mini NES has 30 Built-in Games

Nintendo Entertainment System

It’s about time Nintendo released something like this. Announced today, the company, which is currently seeing plenty of success from the limited release of Pokémon Go, will release a miniature version of their classic Nintendo Entertainment System console. The NES will feature 30 built-in titles that cover some of the classics of the system. It will retail at $59.99 USD and release on November 11th, 2016.

You can find a complete list of the games below:

The major thing to note is that this console will not use cartridges despite it being modeled exactly like the cartridge-based system. The 30 games included are all that it will include, it seems. You will however, be able to use the NES controller that comes with the system to play Virtual Console titles on a Wii or Wii U by plugging it into a Wii Remote. So if there are any games not on this that are there, you can enjoy those with a classic NES controller. The system itself will connect via HDMI.

One of the other features includes the ability to create suspend points in the game, so you can come back to it without having to enter in passwords (one of the main reasons I have a hard time going back to my NES).

Sega has done something similar to this before, releasing a plug and play version of their popular consoles. They’ve managed to find some success with it, and I’m sure Nintendo will as well. This will be a great Christmas gift and is a good sample of the NES’s collection, but there will still be those who want to play more than 30 games from the system, which will leave other options like the Retron more desirable.
