Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Delayed Until June

Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is actually happening, that much is guaranteed. Unfortunately, those who were looking forward to the game in May will have to wait a couple weeks longer as the first-person parkour game will now ship on June 7th, 2016 in North America and June 9th in Europe. The game was originally going to ship on May 24th and 26th, respectively.

This two week delay is so that many of the social play features can be fleshed out and tested thoroughly. From leaderboards to creating time trials, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst is trying to make a more integrated online experience. According to the post made by Erik Odeldahl on the official website for the game, the design director stated that this as well as being able to react to closed beta impressions is why the game needs that extra two weeks in the oven.

Social Play is one of the “key features” of both the closed beta and the full game, which makes sense that it would be the reason they cite for the delay. The closed beta launches tomorrow on April 22nd, and the feedback from that will inform how they tweak the Social Play features. It’ll also be a nice way to get a little bit of stress testing in to ensure the game can still run well with the integrated social features.

Mirror’s Edge Catalyst launches on June 7th, 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
