Capcom announced today that the company has shipped 5 million copies of its newest release, Monster Hunter World, including digital download sales.
It’s important to note that “shipped” doesn’t necessarily mean “sold,” so the number of copies sold is likely less than 5 million but regardless, these numbers bode well for the 14-year-old series.
The first Monster Hunter debuted in 2004 on the PlayStation 2 and since then, has received five more mainline entries, including World, and eight spin-offs. As of this month, the franchise sits at a 45 million units sold.
Monster Hunter World is available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, with a PC release slated to come, and is the first console release in nine years. The PlayStation 4 version comes with exclusive free DLC in form of Horizon Zero Dawn gear and as previously announced, we know that Mega Man and Street Fighter V content is coming. Furthermore, Capcom has promised new monsters and new content to come.
