A live-action Mortal Kombat film, Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, is already set to debut in 2021, but if you are looking for something a bit sooner coming from the universe of Mortal Kombat, you’re in luck. Warner Brothers Animation has announced Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, an animated film set to feature many of the brutal game universe’s main cast.

Scorpion’s Revenge has an all-star cast of voices such as Joel McHale and Jennifer Carpenter set to play main characters Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade respectively. Jordan Rodriguez will step into the shoes of the Shaolin monk Lui Kang, with Patrick Seitz and Steve Blum continuing to portray their iconic characters of Scorpion and Sub Zero. Darin De Paul, who is known for iconic roles like J.Jonah Jameson in Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Reinhardt in Overwatch, is set to add the necromancer Quan Chi to his resume.

Rounding out the cast is Tobert Atkin Downes as Kano, David B. Mitchell as Raiden, Ike Amandi as Jax, and Grey Griffin as Kitana. To add an old school pedigree to the cast, Kevin Michael Richardson is returning to the role of Goro, after playing him in the original 1995 live-action film. Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, will even be lending his hand to the film as a creative consultant, making sure the Mortal Kombat universe is properly portrayed.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge is set to release in the first half of 2020. This story was originally revealed on Revenge of the Fans website.

Opinion: I think that letting the people responsible for DC Animated, some of the best DC stories and movies we have gotten, have a stab at Mortal Kombat is a great call from Warner Brothers. I’m excited to see how the Mortal Kombat universe is portrayed by animation veterans.
