Free is For Me | Motorstorm RC Review

Another launch title for the PS Vita to quench the thirst of gamers that are dying for another drop of content for the lackluster release. Unlike most games though, this is FREE…yeah that’s right FREE!! Though I do understand it’s only free in some countries (US, and Canada to be exact), the question simply is who wants to pass this game regardless if it’s free or not?

First, lets get out of the way that also unlike most games on the Vita, there are NO TOUCH SCREEN CONTROLS. Meaning no gimmicks here, just straight up in your face racing action. “But then what makes this different then most of the other racing games on the market?” You may ask, well it takes what Motorstorm is known for (which is wacky, and creative tracks) and shirks them to the size of RC cars. Much like it’s partners, the graphics aren’t system pushing. They aren’t ugly, but players can tell that this isn’t the Vita at it’s best.

The water level of racing…seriously I dare you to try drive that!!

Music and sound are also stellar, taking tracks from various DJs, and mashing techno with fast paced racing action. And really that is all this game is about, and the controls feel very natural for it. The player uses the two analog sticks, the left for steering and the right for acceleration. You use the R button to reset your car, and Triangle to set the camera. That’s all there is to it, simple and effective. As for types of race there a few. The regular which pits you against competitors in a race to the finish, a Ghost Run where you race against the clock to get the best time, the Hostel Takeover where you race to see how many cars you can pass in the shortest amount of time, and the Drifter where you see how many turns or drifts you can do in a certain amount of time. If the player does well they are rewarded with medals, the more they collect the more they unlock from cars to more tracks.

Welcome to the Jungle!!! Now cue lawsuit from Axel Rose in 3..2…..1

All in all, rather you live in the parts of the world that offer this game free, or not, this game is definitely worth the time to download. It’s fun racing at it’s finest, and a title that is worthy of attention. With all that it offers, this is  an addicting racer for all those who love arcade style fun.
