EA has confirmed that their Need for Speed reboot will require an online connection. Players will have to have their PC or console connected to the internet at all times in order to play it. The announcement was made on the game’s official Twitter page with the tweet you can see below.

@DeanRheims NFS will require an online connection, but the benefits are nice. More variety and a more rewarding experience with friends.

In another tweet, developer Ghost Games argued that making the game always online allows them to include everyone in their “narrative experience”. But the last game in the franchise, Need for Speed: Rivals, offered online and offline modes.

This isn’t the first time the publisher has done this. In 2013 EA launched a reboot of their SimCity franchise which always required an online connection. A terrible launch and strong fan backlash eventually forced the publisher to patch in an offline mode.

What do you think of Need for Speed requiring an online connection? Is it a step in the right direction or another EA mistake? Let us know in the comments section below. For more information about Need for Speed, stick with BagoGames.

Need for Speed launches later this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
