Need for Speed Rivals Not Coming to Wii U Due to Most Wanted’s Low Sales

For those of you looking forward to playing Need for Speed Rivals on your Wii U –perhaps to see what unique features it’ll have– you may have a long wait in store for you, as Rivals is skipping the platform due to Need for Speed: Most Wanted’s lack of sales on the system.

The Sixth Axis spoke to the game’s Creative Director, Craig Sullivan, and asked him about the lack of Wii U and PS Vita versions of the game, in contrast to when Most Wanted managed to make its way to the Wii U.

Sullivan’s explanation on the matter amounts to a low amount of sales resulting from all the work and people they had working on Most Wanted’s Wii U version.

“It didn’t really sell that many, in terms of the Wii U market. I would love for it to have, because we put so much effort into that, trust me. I’d love for it to be way bigger than it was, and the same for the Vita.”

In the case of Rivals, which is coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PS4, the focus is being directed to the platforms where they’ll sell better.

“[Rivals] is going onto new hardware, and you have to work out where you focus your efforts,” said Sullivan. “The 200 people working on this game are only capable of making so much, and doing so many different versions of the game, so we had to go with where we think the biggest audience will be for the game, and that’s where we are.”

Multiplatform titles tend to sell less on Nintendo platforms, due to audience sizes and the different control setup. Despite the Wii U Gamepad being a controller we’re used to, but with a screen in the middle, people don’t seem to want to play games like Need for Speed and Call of Duty on it. Unique controls/features or not.
