NEO: The World Ends With You is an upcoming action RPG from Square Enix. The game takes place in Shibuya, following Rindo as he joins the Reapers. Though he begins having second thoughts about his decision when he begins battling monsters called The Noise. At least there are pins that grant mysterious powers, and a place called Shibuya UG (Underground).
A Stylistic Shibuya
NEO: The World Ends With You features stylized visuals that take inspiration from comic books. Cutscenes are shown as comic book panels with text bubbles showing character dialogue. This art style spreads to the game’s setting, Shibuya. The entire city has been redone in the game, being familiar yet different enough to be exciting.
The game features colorful characters to interact with as well. In addition to Rindo, you will encounter the happy-go-lucky Fret, the young-looking Nagi, the powerful psychic Minamimoto, and the masterful Shiba to mention a few.
Using your psychic powers, you can scan people to read their thoughts. This will be vital to discovering important information. This is also how you see The Noise and battle it. You can touch several Noise symbols to start a chain battle.
Coming To Consoles And PC
NEO: The World Ends With You will launch for PS4 and Nintendo Switch July 27. A PC version will arrive this summer on Epic Games Store. A 21k yen “NEO: The World Ends With Bag” edition will also be available via Square Enix e-Store. This edition includes a copy of the game, mini soundtrack, art book, pin badge set in a cassette-themed case, a Mr. Mew hanging pouch with snap ring, and record bag with grafitti pattern.
You can also get some pre-order bonuses for the game, depending on where you buy it. The Square Enix Store or Square Enix e-Store has the following bonuses if you order the game by August 26:
- Mutation Badge: Restore Team HP
- Koumokuten Fashion Item: Significantly increase HP
- Twister -NEO MIX- CD: Unique background music for the menu screen
You can also get a unique set of bonuses if you order the game via the PlayStation Store or Nintendo e-Shop by August 26. These items are Legendary items that would normally appear much later in the game.
- Legendary Headphones: Increased damage to enemies, increased damage resistance
- Legendary Off Turtleneck: Significantly increased attack damage
- Legendary Shorts: Shortens time
- Legendary Sneakers: Increased battle movement speed
- Legendary Audio Player: Hugely increased HP.
