A New Battle Royale Game To Join PUBG And Fortnite Later This Year

Remember S.T.A.L.K.E.R., that scary shooter set around the nuclear-accident site of Chernobyl? Well, some of the developers behind that game have moved on to the genre of Battle Royale.

Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games–the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. team–announced yesterday, Fear the Wolves, a post-apocalyptic battle royale game set to release in 2018. The game has been in development for several months and yesterday, during the Paris press event, “Le What’s Next de Focus,” it was finally unveiled.

According to Focus Home Interactive, the game will offer a new and original take on the growing genre of Battle Royale. Fear the Wolves will drop players, in squads or as lone wolves, into the radiation-ravaged Chernobyl. The classic battle royale mode will force players to fight to be the last man standing out of 100 fighters. The other mode is where Fear the Wolves differs from other games in the genre like PUBG and Fortnite.

In this currently-unnamed mode, to secure first place, players will need to fight off not only other fighters, but the environment around them that threatens to destroy any chances they have of making it to the end. Players will be faced with deadly anomalies, dynamically-changing weather and a day-night cycle that will force survivors to continuously adapt their strategies. On the map, players can find protective gear that allows them to enter off-limit zones where they might find safety for a moment. During all of this, the howls of mutated creatures will continue encroaching as players make their way through the wasteland that is Chernobyl.

No set release date has been given but Focus Home Interactive said the game will launch on PC and consoles later this year, with early access coming soon to PC.
