New Child of Light Details, Trailer

We already knew about the existence of Ubisoft’s new downloadable title, Child of Light, but not much was known in terms of what the game was about or how it would play. Well, today, Ubisoft has not only released some new info, but we also have a beautiful trailer to watch.

Child of Light puts players in the role of Aurora, who winds up a magical kingdom called Lemuria in which it’s Black Queen has managed to steal the Sun, the Moon and the Stars. Aurora must find the light sources scattered around the kingdom and defeat the Black Queen in order to save Lemuria and retrieve her lost soul. Fortunately, she’s not alone, as she has a floating ball of light that guides her named Igniculus. Igniculus can be controller by a second player and can navigate through areas that Aurora can not and assist in battle by blinding and slowing down enemies and healing party members.

Said creative director Patrick Plourde in an interview with Polygon: “I’m a father, and fairy tales are about parents telling their children stories that carry values. So one day our marketing director said, ‘Why don’t you make a game where you can play with your son?’ and I was like, ‘Ah! That’s so true!’

“So I had the idea of what if we took the Super Mario Galaxy approach where you have a character that helps? What if he could move around on the screen and it’s not a nuisance for the parent?”

Child of Light will feature an ATB (Active Time Battle) system meter at the bottom of the screen that shows players which characters will be making a move. This meter can be affected by Igniculus using his blinding and slowing down abilities mentioned earlier. The dialogue of the game will also only be spoken in rhyme, a result of the game being inspired by fairy tales and poems.

Child of Light is set to release next year for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC.
