New Looney Tunes Movies By X-Men Writers

The most iconic animated characters of all-time will soon be returning in a new theatrical Looney Tunes movie from Warner Brothers. The film entitled Acme is currently in development by X-Men: First Class writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Steve Carrel is already attached to star and Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are being eyed as the directors. There are no specific plot details revealed at this time, though rumors have been circulating that it will be either a spin-off or focus on non-primary characters. Something about these rumors are giving me the impression that we’ll see a revival akin to 2011’s The Muppets.

Hard to speculate with very few details, but Steve Carrel would certainly be a welcome actor for this live-action/animation hybrid. My one hope is that they keep the characters 2D and vibrant as with Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. I don’t even want to think about what a 3D animated version of the characters in live-action would look like. Although I was very impressed with Warner Brother’s most recent CGI Looney Tunes shorts, so there may be some hope if they can nail this style.
