If you haven’t heard already, Batman: Arkham Knight won’t be working on PCs for quite some time. If you’re one of the lucky few who got a working PC copy, then you might just be in luck for one of the game’s most intriguing easter eggs, of sorts – one that’s as big as the entire Arkham franchise itself.
Thanks to two PC users, Wastelander121 and MrJAG, it was discovered that a modified file for Arkham Knight’s PC version will unlock one gravity-defying bug which allows you to soar through the skylines of the Rocksteady Studio’s Arkham games from 2009’s Arkham Asylum to this year’s downtown Gotham City.
The nearly 24-minute video below highlights a variety of landmarks familiar to veteran players of the series, even including the derelict oil rig and amusement park from this month’s Batgirl: A Matter of Family DLC. Other locations include North and South Gotham from Warner Bros. Montreal’s Batman: Arkham Origins and even a visibly far-off Wayne Manor.
Sadly, none of the out-of-map buildings are intractable nor does there seem to be any collectibles, but it’s rather admirable how much the series has built in the past six years. This exploit follows a similar bug in 2011’s Batman: Arkham City which similarly granted players the ability to fly over a mostly-rendered Gotham City.
In the meantime, Rocksteady’s diligently working on an “interim patch” for Arkham Knight’s PC port next month. The game’s expected to see a rerelease on PC by September at earliest.
We genuinely liked Batman: Arkham Knight on console, but we sure wish we had as large of a map as this to explore in any full version.
