Whilst both Microsoft and Sony have both been releasing DLC for a long time now, Nintendo has mainly taken a step back from the idea of expanding a game through digitally release content, with the exception of one or two Pokemon release as rewards for connecting your device to Wi-Fi and selecting mystery gift and the occasional Animal Crossing item delivered right to your mailbox on a monthly basis.
However, Nintendo have recently stepped up their game when it comes to digitally released content with additional maps in Fire Emblem: Awakening and now an entirely new add-on for the Wii U launch game; New Super Mario Bros U.
The game has been out for a week now and we thought it would be a great idea to share with you a few select quotes from other news outlets as to how well Nintendo’s first ‘big step’ into DLC has gone. On average, after receiving reviews from 23 different critics, the game is currently at 76 out of 100, 8 points behind the original as reviewed by 70 different critics which scored 84 out of 100.
A look on the positive side of scores says:
GamingTrend: “If you’ve felt like some of the old-school magic has been missing from Super Mario games lately, let Luigi guide you through some of the most satisfying platform gaming ever designed”.
GameSpot: “Luigi is absolutely the guy. This game is cheap and a must buy for Wii U owners”.
And some of the less positive side of scores said:
Edge Magazine: “Some will undoubtedly find its challenge inviting, but others will rightly expect more ingenuity from Nintendo than this.”
Eurogamer: “… by the series’ consistently high standards, it qualifies as a disappointment”.
