Today Atari and developer Wayforward announced that a new version of the classic centipede franchise would be hitting stores later this year. Centipede: Infestation will be released on the Nintendo Wii and 3DS.
The game promises to be quiet different than it’s predecessors. It will boast a darker tone, with a post-apocalyptic environment it will share elements of a rough and tough shooter as well as a tower-defense game. The player will take the role of an orphaned teen boy named Max who is tasked with surviving in a wasteland over-run by mutated giant bugs. It’s his goal to help bring back plant life and save the world.
Sounds pretty simple, right?
Being a Wayforward developed game, a studio notable for creating Contra 4, Centipede: Infestation will feature a co-op multiplayer mode. It’s also been reported that the 3DS version of the game will include some kind of “content” sharing capability across handhelds while boasting Streetpass support.
