Fans eagerly awaiting the release of of the third and last Mass Effect in the trilogy will have to wait just a little bit longer. When it was first announced back in December of last year that Mass Effect 3 would hit stores during the holiday season of 2011 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC we were ecstatic. But we were stunned and surprised when we confirmed earlier yesterday that the game was delayed till 2012.
The official quote came from Casey Hudson, the Executive Director of the Mass Effect series during a discussion on the Bioware social forum where he stated poignantly, “Mass Effect 3 is now scheduled for the first three months of 2012”. He want on to say, “The Development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it exceeds everyone’s expectations.”
Eurogamer revealed comments made by EA’s CEO John Riccitiello at a recent conference call where he went into more detail on the upcoming release. He stated that the development team “adjusted gameplay mechanics and some of the features” to make Mass Effect 3 more like a cross between a shooter and RPG. He also stated that he thinks the game will out sell it’s predecessors and gain a larger market share over all. Of course, with news of a delay we’ll have to wait a bit longer to test whether the CEO’s predictions pan out or not.
