Call of Duty: Black Ops remains one of the most popular sub-series within the Call of Duty franchise, with the first game being the most successful for Activision. The current three-year development cycle for the popular shooter franchise means that Treyarch is up to bat after 2015’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. According to reports from Eurogamer, it seems that their follow-up will be Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

The real shock of this all isn’t that Treyarch is continuing with the Black Ops franchise, but that they’re scaling it back to be more in line with the rest of the Call of Duty titles. To be fair, it’s not as if CoD is a grounded series, but this is in reaction to Infinite Warfare‘s poor sales in comparison to the other games. The other massive piece of news is that this might be the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform since Call of Duty: Ghosts was released on the Nintendo Wii U. Marcus Sellars has predicted many announcements, so he shouldn’t be taken for granted when he says that Black Ops 4 will release on the Nintendo Switch, along with the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

The Switch version will have the unique features that the console is known for including HD Rumble and motion controls, so it will be interesting to see if that enhances or ruins the gameplay experience. It’s also being ported by a separate company, which could go either way. However, this is good news for Nintendo fans who have wanted to experience one of the better Call of Duty series’ with Black Ops. All signs point to Black Ops 4 releasing later this year, most likely in the usual November timeslot.
