NHL 15 Cover Athlete Revealed at NHL Awards Show

Forgive me if I gloat here but I’m a little biased about the selection of NHL 15’s cover athlete. Being born and raised in Boston, the Black and Gold is embedded into our DNA at an early age. So it came as no surprise that Bruins Nation voted over 10 million times to select Patrice Bergeron as the cover athlete for the next installment of the EA hockey franchise.

Bergeron and Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban were the two finalist, which was fitting due to the heated rivalry between the two organizations. Bergeron, a French Canadien himself, had this to say about his selection: “I never thought of that when I grew up. To be on the cover, it’s very special. It’s a game that I used to play a lot as a kid and so many great players have been on the cover of that game in the past and now to be part of that list is very humbling, so it’s pretty special. I want to thank all the fans obviously for voting. I’m really grateful for the support that I have received over the course of that campaign and it means a lot to me.”

At the NHL Awards ceremony in Las Vegas, Bergeron was announced the cover athlete but he wasn’t done there as he took him the Selke award for the second time in his career. This award is given to the Best Defensive Forward. And he also won the NHL Foundation Player Award, which is awarded to an NHL player “who applies the core values of hockey — commitment, perseverance and teamwork — to enrich the lives of people in his community.”

Patrice Bergeron and his teammates didn’t win the Cup this year, and at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about, but yesterday was a good day to be a Boston Bruins fan.

NHL 15 arrives in stores on September 9 in North America and September 12 for Europe. NHL 15 will be the first hockey game to arrive on next-gen.
