I loved Pokemon Go for a few months. As they continue rolling out updates with more Pokemon and more features, it’s not surprising that the game has maintained a lot of its popularity after breaking through the zeitgeist in a huge way. Well, Niantic Labs might be making another huge splash in the mobile Augmented Reality market with a Harry Potter tie-in. TechCrunch reports that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be Niantic’s follow-up to Pokemon Go and Ingress and is set to launch in 2018.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any details really. Ingress will be the main influence it sounds like, but that’s a given since most of Pokemon Go has parallels to their first AR title, as well. It’s easy to see the location-based software working well with the Harry Potter universe, but I think what lends itself most is the point-based Housing system of the Harry Potter franchise. Now, more than ever, those quizzes that tell you what House you’d belong to can actually make an impact on some decision you’ll make.

My question is how much spell casting will matter to Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, assuming all of this comes to pass. While Pokemon Go utilizes a battle system, it doesn’t really feel great to play (main reason I bailed on the game) and it isn’t very deep for what moves you can use.
