Whether you loved or hated the newly produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, it seems like the franchise will be sticking around the cinema for a while. Despite the negative critic reviews, the Turtles will be returning in the summer of 2016. Returning crew will be writers Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec as well as producer Michael Bay. The director has yet to be confirmed. No word yet on returning cast members either. Paramount’s President Adam Goodman made the following statement:
Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story.
It appears similar to Bay’s perspective with the Transformers franchise where critical success is not a factor in continuing the saga. Granted, Bay’s Transformers films have made considerably more money on opening weekends, but maybe Paramount is just that confident about the Turtles for the weeks ahead. With a new cartoon series and plenty of toys still selling, the new movie certainly has a lot of tie-in which most likely helped attract the younger audiences. Love it or hate it, the Turtles are here to stay.
