A Nintendo representative has confirmed to GamesIndustry International that Nintendo is continuing to sell Wii U hardware at a loss as we come ever close to the consoles first birthday.

GameSpot notes that before the console launched in 2012, Satoru Iwata said that it was Nintendo’s ambition to sell the console at a “reasonable” price in addition to Reggie Fils-Aime stating that the system becomes profitable after consumers purchase a single piece of software.

The Wii U, as many of you regular Bagogames readers will have read recently, is struggling with Nintendo managing to sell just over 160,000 Wii U units worldwide between April 2013 – June 2013. The total worldwide install base is believed to be around 3.61 million.
