Mr. Iwata announced Nintendo will be debuting special figurines at E3 2014 that can be used in a variety of games for both the Wii U and 3DS. Currently this project is being called “Nintendo Figurine Platform” or “NFP” for short.
It is a hope for Nintendo that these in-game playable figures will help expose Nintendo to a wider audience and boost sales. Only a Mario figure has been shown but it can be assumed that there will be a lot more characters available once the first game is for sale in retail stores.
More information about the figures and games will be announced at this year’s E3. Nintendo is hosting a live video presentation from their Treehouse this year in place of an E3 physical presentation.
