Nintendo’s Finally Rereleased ‘Mother’ on the Wii U eShop

After twenty long, hard years, Earthbound fans may finally have reason to rejoice: Nintendo’s rereleased Mother for the Wii U virtual console at long last – but this time as Earthbound Beginnings.

The 1989 predecessor to Earthbound (released as its sequel in the US) can now be downloaded on the Wii U eShop at your leisure. The game’s release marks Nintendo’s celebration of Earthbound‘s 20th anniversary.

Inspired by and somewhat parodical of the Dragon Quest series, the 8-bit JRPG’s earned quite the cult-following in the past two decades. Mother chronicled the adventures of a group of three children gifted with various psychic powers, led by Ninten, investigating paranormal disturbances in their small, rural town.

The game’s seemingly avoided every chance at a localized port in the West since its exclusive release in Japan, with most left to import Japanese versions of the game – until now.

Have you ever given Mother a whirl? If so, what are your best memories of it? Let us know down below.
