Nintendo Hears Fans’ Requests to Honor Robin Williams

The Legend of Zelda may have been responsible for Robin Williams’ beloved game commercials, and fans have petitioned a memorial be made to him following his tragic passing in Nintendo’s upcoming title for the Wii U. The petition reached over 100,000 signatures as of late, and Nintendo has offered a response.

Much like the petition that encouraged Blizzard to include a Robin Williams NPC in World of Warcraft, this petition asks Nintendo to consider creating a Robin Williams NPC in a future Zelda title. It has reached more than 100,000 signatures and reads, “Robin was an avid player of video games, with a love for all things Nintendo, and a particular love of all things Legend of Zelda. It is well-known that he named his daughter after the series’ titular princess.”

A Nintendo rep talked to Polygon about the petition, saying the company appreciates the thoughts from the gaming community, and that they “hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game.” Continuing, they disclosed that they wouldn’t discuss “what might be possible for future games during this difficult time,” but that they would “hold our memories of Robin close.”

Nintendo worked with Robin Williams and his daughter Zelda to help promote both the Ocarina of Time 3D and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the latter of which you can see below:
