E3 2016: Nintendo Outlines its Plans for E3

The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo

Nintendo seems to mostly be focusing on the new Legend of Zelda game for E3, which will most likely be the system’s swan song. However, that isn’t stopping them from bringing a number of titles to E3, and giving fans a few ways to interact with the company from their own home. Starting this week there will be activities in Miitomo, followed by digital sales on the eShop and streams from E3. Below is a breakdown of what to expect from Nintendo.

Nintendo tweeted this out on the 8th, and the goal was to get 10,000 global retweets, which Nintendo would then issue a “Link’s new hair wig” as an in-app gift to all Miitomo users. If it hits 20,000 retweets then Nintendo will give all Miitomo users a “Link wig” in the Miitomo app.

Nintendo will kick things off on the 14th at 9:00 AM PST with the first look at live gameplay of The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U. The introduction will be made by Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime. They will continue throughout the day with live gameplay of the new Pokemon games; Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. You can watch these live via Nintendo’s channels on YouTube, Twitch and on http://e3.nintendo.com.

There will also be more Zelda coming this day to the Miitomo app. There will be a new themed Legend of Zelda drop in Miitomo that will give users the ability to win Legend of Zelda themed items for their Miis in the app. Players will also be able to use their Miitomo coins to buy Legend of Zelda collaboration items, in addition to a new item on the My Nintendo website that will use players’ My Nintendo platinum points.

Lastly, starting on the 14th at 11 a.m. PST and running until 8:59 a.m. PST on June 21st there will be a sale on the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo will be offering discounts on some of its most popular games, and My Nintendo users can also get an additional discount during the sale. Nintendo is encouraging people to sign up to My Nintendo in advance if they haven’t, to avoid any E3 rush. To receive the discount, My Nintendo users need to link their Nintendo Account to their Nintendo Network ID and access the eShop at least once before they make their purchase.

On the second and last day of Nintendo’s Treehouse coverage, Nintendo will be showcasing some of its biggest upcoming titles. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE for the Wii U, Monster Hunter Generations and Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past for the 3DS will be highlighted. As well, the day will start with a special Pokemon GO Q&A with the developer.

While it seems that Nintendo is mostly all-in as far as Legend of Zelda is concerned, it is still nice to see that they are giving their fans some new info on games as well as hopefully some deals to tide them over until new games release, or until the NX launches.
