Nintendo Switch is Nintendo’s Next Console

The trailer revealing the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo’s next-gen console, has finally been revealed this morning!

As the rumor regarding the portability of the new system has been proven true. The Switch will sit in a dock next to your tv and then after picking it up it can be taken wherever you go. This makes it easier to finish quests, races and whole games. According to the preview, the system will use cartridges similar to the 3DS and DS handhelds.

Nintendo’s Switch is combining the worlds of home consoles and handheld consoles so that no one must decide between the two. According to the NVIDIA official blog post that coincided with Nintendo’s trailer this morning, they stated “NVIDIA gaming technology is integrated into all aspects of the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system, which promises to deliver a great experience to gamers“. Nintendo pronounced the graphics on the portable screen are indeed HD quality for crisp and bright displays on the go.

As per tradition, Nintendo is offering several controller options. The removable Joy-Con controllers slide on and off the portable Switch and can be used by a single player or shared to allow multiplayer. Once the Joy-Con controllers are attached to the system, it looks like a square version of the Wii U Gamepad. This may prove to be a problem for portability purposes since Switch is much too large to fit into a pocket or small purse. Those who desire the freedom of the portability, will need to carry it in a backpack.

One very important feature the Switch has that the Wii U does not is the third-party support. This preview features Nintendo’s own games: Breath of the Wild (which a new gameplay trailer was released of earlier today), Splatoon, a new Mario and new Mario Kart, in addition to a third-party game – Skyrim. This is the list of announced third-party Switch developers:

The mysterious NX is now forever known as Switch and seems to have fixed one of the main problems with the Wii U: a lack of a third-party library. But, the confusing marketing has remained. Within this one video, different controllers are shown with no clear answer as to what is included in the system’s box or what will be sold separately. Also, the main target appears to be millennials with money to spend. Young adults with luxurious homes and stylish clothes give the impression they have extra funds. This raises the question of the Switch’s cost. Since no young children or families were shown in the preview, Nintendo is showing viewers that this is a grown-up console and most likely with a hefty price tag. Nintendo will be revealing further information and hopefully clearing up some questions closer to the launch which will be March 2017.
