Obsidian’s New Game Needs Your Kickstarter Money To Get Made!

Obsidian Entertainment, famous for Knights Of The Old Republic II, Fallout New Vegas and Alpha Protocol, have announced their new project, technically. It’s called Project Eternity (working title), an isometric fantasy RPG inspired by games like Baldur’s Gate and Planescape: Torment and will be lead designed by Chris Avellone (lead designer of Planescape: Torment), Tim Cain (creator of Fallout) and Josh Sawyer. But there is a catch: it’s a Kickstarter project. And its target is rather large.

But let’s focus on the game first. The game’s Kickstarter page promises to “take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.” Combat will be real time with a pause function with “positioning your party and coordinating attacks and abilities” being “one of the keys to success”. Obsidian are also promising “a story that explores mature themes and presents you with complex, difficult choices to shape how your story plays out.”

Sounds pretty great, right? So, just how much is this amazing sounding project going to cost to get funded? Only the measly sum of $1.1 million in 32 days! But, as of 6:33PM UK time, the project’s already got a funding of $63,000 from 1,041 backers, so it sounds like there’s heavy interest for this. And, if you need that extra little push, the incentives are great too! For $25 you get the game and an exclusive item. $65 nets you the digital game, the exclusive item, a digital copy of the soundtrack, a digital collector’s book and a boxed copy of the game. And if you have $250 to blow? Everything mentioned previous plus a shirt, your boxed game signed, a softcover collector’s book, a cloth map, a cloth badge, a VIP forum badge and a special thanks in the credits. And don’t even get me started on the $1,000 incentives…!

There are plenty more incentives both between those figures and further on but the message should be through to you now, you need to help fund this game! I am breaking the impartiality of news reporting and flat out telling you to go get this game funded! It’s an old-school RPG by Obsidian and Chris Avellone, for Maker’s sake!  You have no excuse! Go! Click the link at the bottom and go!

Plus, if we hit the overfund, maybe Obsidian will hire an actual QA department for this game! ZING!!
